Dear Members of the
Association of Medical School Pharmacology Chairs (AMSPC) and Visitors,
I am delighted as President to welcome you our web site and to serve as
President.
AMSPC is an
organization composed of Members who are current and emeritus Chairs of
medical school pharmacology departments in the United States and Canada
and Associate Members from other countries. AMSPC is dedicated to
promoting pharmacology as a discipline and our overall focus includes:
medical and graduate student education; scientific research; research
funding; interfaces with industry; and faculty development. Each year
the membership holds an annual winter meeting in January or February to
update members on important developments in these areas and allow
members to interact in an informal atmosphere that promotes exchange of
ideas, cooperation among departments and formation of new friendships
and collaborations.
I encourage you to
attend our upcoming annual meeting in February, 2010. As individual
chairs of our respective departments, we have our work cut out for us in
the coming years. AMSPC will be invaluable to us as we address major
issues affecting our discipline and our home institutions. I think you
will agree that the economic climate in the nation and worldwide has
deeply affected our goals for education, faculty recruitment, research
and funding, both federal and institutional. Active and emeritus AMSPC
members are an excellent source of advice, and we can learn from one
another what works and what does not.
Please explore our
web site. The sidebars on this page provide some information on our
annual meetings and links to our members’ web pages. AMSPC also
maintains and regularly updates the Knowledge Objectives in Medical
Pharmacology --- the essential elements of pharmacology that should be
taught to medical students. In addition, AMSPC maintains a close
relationship with FASEB through the American Society for Pharmacology
and Experimental Therapeutics. This also encourages interactions with
pharmacologists in any career area, such as other educational venues.
Please feel free to
contact me ( CONTACT _Con-427CE3B5235 bsloane@med.wayne.edu) or any of
the AMSPC officers if you have any comments or questions.
Best regards, Bonnie
F. Sloane, Ph.D. |
